The basic diagram of the new 28,000 square-foot, $10 million Jordan-Newby Library is one of a masonry boundary wall protecting the main volume of the structure that is intersected by a large glass lantern. The main structure is a quietly detailed box clad in insulated metal panels. This allows the masonry wall and glass lantern to be the stars of the show. The metal skin is profiled in some locations and smooth in others. The contrast is used to further break the building into smaller component parts. The library includes administration offices; bright and airy lobby; adult, young adult, and children's collection areasl; computer lab; meeting rooms; program room; display areas; study areas; lounge and support spaces; children's patio; and second-floor balcony.
