ODU Batten Arts and Letters Renovations and Additions
CLIENT: Old Dominion University / Commonwealth of Virginia
Norfolk, Virginia

The renovations and additions to the 105,000-square-foot, 9-story Batten Arts and Letters Building included architectural improvements on the exterior entrances and interior lobbies to create a significant architectural image for the building and to introduce light and views. Interior renovations included all new finishes throughout, including carpet, ceramic tile, and VCT; ceiling tile replacement; new doors; paint; lighting; sprinkler system; mechanical and plumbing upgrades; and classroom mediation per ODU-OCCS standard for technology. Bathrooms were updated for handicap access and a new hydraulic elevator was installed for the classroom wing, floors 1-3.

"The subtle design changes used in the renovation of the Batten Arts and Letters Building have transformed a very tired and dated building to a very inviting space enjoyed by faculty, staff, and students. The renovation was a very complicated, phased project that progressed smoothly because of their timeliness in responding to all clarifications and inquiries. Tymoff+Moss are one of the most responsive architectural firms in my experience." - Mollie McCune, Project Manager, ODU
