CLIENT: Collegiate School
Richmond, Virginia

This project consisted of renovations and additions to the Reed-Gumenick Library. It is an 8,000-SF, one-story Library and Media Center located between Collegiate's existing Middle and Upper Schools. The building is steel and CMU framed, masonry veneer, with aluminum curtainwall systems with insulated glass. New roof insulation and a 60 mil membrane roof were added. A new metal coping was added to cap the existing and new walls. A ridge skylight was located in the center ofthe building. Two new, raised canopies project from the north and south additions. Interior functions include a Library, Media Center, collaborative work space for the students, a Maker-Bot 3D design space, two new Classrooms, and Staff support space. A terraced exterior amphitheater lies to the south. The Head of School has coined the new flexible classroom “the most sought-after space on campus.”
